IBA, Zambales — A total of nine former rebels in Zambales received livelihood assistance from Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) under the Pangkabuhayan para sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa program.
DTI OIC-Assistant Regional Director Leonila Baluyut disclosed that each returnee received PhP10,000 worth of gift certificate and grocery items which they can use to start a business.
“We hope that this additional assistance will help their livelihood grow and help their family’s future. This livelihood support program for former rebels is proof of government’s sincerity in helping them live a normal life,” Army 3rd Mechanized Infantry Battalion Commanding Officer Lt.Col. Norberto Aromin Jr. said.
For his part, Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. offered them vocational courses and jobs so they can start a new journey in their lives.
In a statement, Army 703rd Infantry Brigade Commander BGen. Andrew Costelo said DTI’s livelihood program is a welcome opportunity for former rebels.
“As we implement the government’s whole-of-nation approach program to end the local communist armed conflict, we make sure that they will be able to live peaceful and productive lives,” he furthered. –Reia G. Pabelonia
