To the surprise and amusement of Kapampangans , two of the main characters of an American TV series spoke Kapampangan in one of their episodes.
During an episode of “The Great Indoors” aired in the US on January 5, lead character Jack Gordon engaged in a Kapampangan discussion with his boss Roland. In this episode, Jack decided to teach the inexperienced millennials about camping the way Roland taught him and Brooke: by leaving them to fend for themselves in the wilderness while he goes to a posh resort nearby. Brooke clashed with Jack and her father, insisting they needed to make camping fun for the millennials because they aren’t equipped to learn the way she and Jack did. Jack is an adventure reporter for the magazine Outdoor Limits, who had to be reassigned for an “indoor” task of looking after a tech savvy “millennial” team after his publisher decided to shift to online publishing. The TV series explores a multigenerational workforce and the generation gap arising among the tech-savvy millennial online team and their Gen X supervisor. To date, the series has shown a total of 11 episodes.

Roland: You spent some time in the Philippines. How’s your Kapampangan?
Jack: Masanting.
Roland: Ituru mu la mag-camping antimo anyang tiru daka.
Jack: Dela mu ku king impyernu. Ditak na ku mete karin.
Roland: Ing experience tamu king astingla, antimo ika ampo y Brooke.
Brooke: Whatever it is you’re planning, I don’t like it especially I heard you said “Brooke.”
Roland to Brooke: I think you misheard me.
Roland to Jack: Emu sasabyan kang Brooke.
Brooke: What are you saying?
Jack to the millennial team: Good news, dry humps! We’re going camping!
Good for them they were speaking Kapampangan than Tagalog. Shame for Kapampangans who are in Pampanga that speak Tagalog than Kapampangan.
