Angeles City to send relief goods to Paeng victims

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. announced today, November 2, 2022 that the city government here will start a donation drive for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Paeng.

To jumpstart the said donation drive, Mayor Lazatin allocated P500,000 from the Mayor’s Office fund for the procurement of hygiene kits and diapers for the typhoon victims.

For his part, Mayor Lazatin donated P50,000 from his own salary for the procurement of canned goods.

Apart from this, Lazatin’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel gave a personal financial donation of P25,000.

“Sa mahirap na panahon na ito, mas lalo po nating ipamalas ang pagtutulungan at pagmamahalan, lalo na po ngayong nalalapit na ang Kapaskuhan. Kaya hinihikayat ko rin po ang mga kababayan nating Angeleños na tulungan ang mga kababayan nating nasalanta ng bagyong Paeng,” Lazatin said.

With this, Lazatin is calling for donations from Angeleños in kind, which may be turned over to the City Social Welfare Development Office led by Edna Duaso.

“In our own capacities also, we would like to extend a helping hand to our Kababayans severely affected by the typhoon,” Lazatin added.

This is not the first time that Mayor Lazatin sent help to disaster-hit areas in the country in the past.

On December 2019, the city handed over relief goods and a cash donation of P500,000 each to 10 municipalities in North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Davao Del Sur, which were severely affected by the strong successive earthquakes in October.

In addition, last January and February 2021, the city government sent 3 truckloads of relief goods and hygiene kits and 3 passenger vehicles carrying a medical team, social workers, and volunteers to the municipalities of Tuy and Balayan, and City of Lipa in Batangas, and City of Legazpi in Albay, to the families who were greatly affected by the recent eruption of Taal Volcano and Typhoon Tisoy, respectively.

In November 2021, the city government sent food packs worth P2 million to 4,000 families in Cagayan and Isabela severely affected by typhoon Ulysses.

In December 2021, the “Saup Angeleños para kareng Bisayanon”, which was also a donation drive for the victims of Typhoon Odette garnered ₱220,000 worth of canned goods, ₱40,000 for diapers, ₱200,000 for bottles of drinking water, ₱40,000 for packs of sanitary napkins, and ₱20,000 pieces for soap and toothpaste.

Mayor Lazatin also allocated P500,000 from the city’s calamity fund for the procurement of the said assistance.
