Bataan LGUs gear for ‘new normal’ in school opening

It would be a mixture of digital learning system and modular approach, or mixed alternative delivery method for Bataan schools as the Department of Education scheduled the opening classes this coming August 24 of this year.

This was revealed by Dinalupihan Mayor Maria Angela “Gila” Garcia during a news briefing with 1Bataan News at her municipal office last Friday.
The law (R.A. 7977) provides that the school opening shall start on the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August.

DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones said last May, that not all teachers and students will physically report to school due to lockdowns being implemented to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus disease.

For the school year 2020-2021, due to the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, DepEd national office have conducted a two-week consultations with its executive and management committees, civil society, educational experts, business sector along with parents and learners who expressed their views in various social media platforms.

Recently, the Bataan Chapter of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, headed by Mayor Gila Garcia, had a video conference with DepEd Bataan headed by Romeo Alip and talked about the province’s education continuity plan.

The virtual meeting was attended by majority of Bataan mayors namely Aida Macalinao of Samal, Jopet Inton of Hermosa, Bondjong Pascual of Orani, TonyPep Raymundo of Orion, Charlie Pizarro of Pilar, Atty. Jocelyn Castaneda of Mariveles, Ramil Del Rosario of Bagac and Vice Mayor Richie David of Limay.

“Most of the LGUs will realign their funds for the needs implementing the new normal using digital learning system and will be supplemented with printed materials. In these case, funds from DepEd’s MOOE, local school board and the province’s school board budget will be synchronized,” Mayor Garcia said.

Mayor Gila also reported that they have visited a private school in Mariveles who conducted an online, digital learning system and fun education approach. She said they have learned a lot with what that school has accomplished utilizing free available educational materials from credible online sources.

“We will be having another meeting this coming week with Gov. Abet Garcia for the province’s basic education plan and to discuss what we have learned in that private school and how it will be implemented to more than 200,000 students of the Bataan Schools Division,” Mayor Gila added.
Under this new normal system, the parent and guardian approach with the students will also be discussed.

“Ang sabi ng kanya kanyang district ng DepEd, yung quality ng mga teachers natin na makapagdevelop ng good curriculum modules magagaling. Ang kailangan lang madevelop natin ito, maipasa for approval and maimplement po natin,” Garcia concluded.
