Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa has been branded a “hypocrite” after asking for forgiveness from God for the extra judicial killings committed by policemen.
According to Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo, the policemen should instead change their ways and arrest the “vigilantes” behind the killings.
Asking for forgiveness without changing their ways is hypocrisy, the bishop said over Church-run Radio Veritas. He also said going to confession would not be enough if they continue committing sins.
This came after Dela Rosa, during the PNP Christmas party, asked God to forgive policemen for all the killings done in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
Pabillo, however, believes that the members of the PNP should go after the vigilantes if they are really sincere in asking for forgiveness.
