CSF pays tribute to Laus; lowers flag at half-mast

The Philippine Flag in front of City Hall of San Fernando was flown at half-mast morning of April 30, 2019, as the City Government honored the life and mourned the passing of Liberato “Levy” P. Laus.

The lowering of the National Flag at half-mast is a recognized way of honoring or mourning the demise of an important person.

Thus, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago issued an executive order to lower the National Flag at half-mast as a means of tribute to Laus for his dedication in service in different aspects.

Santiago said one of the greatest contributions of Laus was to attain economic and countryside development in Pampanga, as a business magnate and civic leader.

“Nai-angat ni Levy Laus ang antas ng economic development sa Pampanga. Siya rin ang nasa likod ng pagpapakilala ng countryside development sa probinsya. Also, we will never forget his efforts para ilayo ang San Fernando sa panganib ng lahar following the Mt. Pinatubo eruption,” he said.

Before his passing, Laus held several top posts including being the chairman emeritus of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. and chair and Chief Executive Officer of the LausGroup of Companies, which is considered the largest multi-brand network in the Philippines today.

He was also behind the construction of a protective dike which helped stop lahar and saved the capital city from total damage, through an organized disaster management group, “Save San Fernando Movement.”

Meanwhile, Laus’ son, Levy Adrian Laus, in his speech, expressed gratitude to the city government for paying tribute to his father’s legacies for San Fernando and Pampanga.

“Ang ama po namin, advocate talaga siya ng countryside development. Araw-araw siyang nag-iisip ng mga paraan upang gawing mas progresibo ang San Fernando at Pampanga. Kaya naman, malaking karangalan ang inihandog na ito ng syudad para sa aming ama at sa aming pamilya,” he said.

The younger Laus also received copy of the Executive Order CMO2019-019 on behalf of his family.

Also present during the activity were Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, CSF-LGU heads of offices and employees, other members of the Laus family, and some of late businessman’s colleagues.

From his demise on April 25 due to a helicopter crash in Bulacan, Laus will be laid to rest afternoon of April 30, 2019 at Sanctuario De San Fernando Memorial Gardens in Barangay San Agustin.
