DepEd RO3 conducts instructional competence capacity building for non-LET SHS teachers

City of San Fernando, Pampanga — At least 1,356 Senior High School teachers in Region 3 who are not yet Licensure Examination Teachers (LET) passers are set to undergo a simultaneous capacity building on enhanced instructional competence on August 20-22.

An initiative of the Department of Education Regional Office III through its new Regional Director, Beatriz G. Torno, the said capacity building will be held in six clusters in Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, and Bataan.

“We want to keep our non-LET passers, because we have come to love our teachers.

They have taught for the last two years and they are given five years to acquire these qualifications to be appointed in permanent teaching positions,” RD Torno said during her installation on July 23.

The capacity-building activity primarily aims to strengthen the critical competencies of teachers in the various disciplines of the Senior High School curriculum; gain deeper understanding of the general education, professional education, and the field of specialization; and achieve greater level of confidence and competence in taking the Licensure Examination for Teachers which is scheduled on September 30.

The modules of the three-day capacity building include the topics on the social dimension of education, principles of teaching education technology, curriculum development, child and adolescent development, assessment of student learning, general education subject areas, and fields of specialization.

Based on DepEd Order 3 s.2016 or the Hiring Guidelines for Senior High School Teachers, the eligibility requirement (passing the LET) must be gained within the first five (5) years of teaching SHS.
