DOLE awards P1.2M for Lubao livelihood program

LUBAO, Pampanga — The municipal government here received on Thursday a P1,210,000 cheque as livelihood assistance to various sectors from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 3.

Arlene Tolentino, Chief Labor and Employment Officer of DOLE Pampanga, handed the check the local government unit represented by Acting Mayor Robertito “Tito” Diaz.

The project proposal was coursed through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood And Emergency Program (DILEEP) which is geared towards providing sustainable income to groups of individuals belonging to the marginalized sector.

The amount, according to Raquel Lugtu, Lubao public employment services office (PESO) chief, will be used to purchased 35 units of negokarts for 35 ambulant vendors; 10 units motor boats for 33 fisherfolks of Barangay Sta. Tereza 2nd registered with DOLE under the name “Asosasyon ng mga Mangingisda ng Brgy. Sta. Tereza 2nd”; one rice reaper for a group of farm workers with 10 members; and five “My sari-sari store” projects for persons with disabilities.

The LGU alloted a 20-percent counterpart fund amounting to P302,500 for the groups’ startup capital, entrepreneurial development trainings and other expenses relevant to the project, Lugtu added.

The awarding of the check was witnessed by Lugtu, Councilors Gonzalo Tungul and Marlon Belleza; and Municipal Treasurer Lerma Natividad.
