DOLE reminds PWDs their rights on employment, livelihood

BALANGA CITY — Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is encouraging persons with disability (PWDs) to know their rights on employment and livelihood privileges as mandated by law.

DOLE Bataan Labor and Employment Officer Rico Val Bacuyag said one of their mandates is to enforce labor laws affecting PWDs.

“As of now, government offices are required to set aside one percent of the positions for PWDs,” Bacuyag said during the provincial celebration of the 41st National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week held at Vista Mall, Balanga City.

He added that private companies also need to have a workforce where one percent of the employees should be reserved for PWDs as prescribed by Republic Act 10524.

Moreover, Bacuyag encouraged PWDs to take advantage of the programs and services that the government is providing for their welfare.

From the past few years, Bacuyag enumerated the projects they have accomplished in the province for the sector such as the distribution of Negosyo sa Kariton for ambulant vendors, dispersal of the Bigasan Project, conduct of livelihood trainings, and other services.

“Our doors in the department are always open for those who will be needing livelihood assistance,” Bacuyag furthered.

About 460 participants joined the advance celebration of this year’s NDPR Week with the theme, “Lokal na Pamahalaan: Kabalikat sa pagtupad ng Karapatan ng mga Taong May Kapansanan.”
