Former Bataan State U instructor among the fatalities in Iloilo sea mishap

SAMAL, Bataan — Messages of condolences flood social media sites particularly Facebook, when Bataeños learned about the demise of a former instructor of Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) in a sea tragedy on Saturday involving three passenger pumpboats that capsized in Iloilo Guimaras Strait that left 16 persons dead.

In latest news updates published online, print and broadcast news, Andrew Valenzuela, 39, a native of Samal, Bataan, was among those who were found and declared dead.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard-Iloilo (PCG), the first two incidents happened around 12:30 p.m. August 3, 2019.

Panay News.net reported that the motorboats “Chichi and Keziah 2 were navigating the rough waters off Iloilo-Guimaras strait when these were battered by squalls or sudden strong gusts of wind causing the boats to capsized.”

MB Chi-chi was carrying 43 passengers with eight crews; MB Keziah was behind, but with no passengers.
