KWF urges youth to join literary translation tilt

BALANGA CITY –​ The ​Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) is encouraging the youth to participate a literary translation competition this April in line with the celebration of National Literature Month.

Youth ages 12-17 may join the competition dubbed as Sali(n) Na, Angela!

“Contestants may choose among the poems of Angela Manalang Gloria to translate from English to Filipino. The literary pieces they can choose are Poems, The Debt and 1940 A.D.,” KWF said in a statement.

First place winner will receive Php5,000 while second and third placers will receive Php3,500 and Php1,500 respectively.

Literature artist Gloria was recognized as the “Natatanging Kabataang Babae sa Panitikan” of Philippines Graphic in 1940.

Her literary piece titled as Poems is the first and only collection of English poems written by a Filipino before World War II.
