Lightning causes power interruption in six Pampanga towns

MEXICO, Pampanga— Continuous heavy rains, strong winds and lightning strikes caused several hours of electric power interruption last August 18 and and 20 at the towns of Arayat, Candaba, Magalang, Mexico, San Luis and Sta. Ana.

The Pampanga I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PELCO I) supplies electric power to the six towns.

Engr. Loliano Allas, PELCO I General Manager, said weather occurrences last August 18 caused the cutting of the aerial grounding wire of the 69KV transmission lines owned by PELCO I at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) compound in San Jose Matulid, in this town. The cut wire then hit the other phase conductors, thus causing electric power intrerruption.

In an another incident last August 20, lightning hit the 10 MVA Power Transformer inside the PELCO I Main Office Compound at Barangay Sto. Domingo which resulted to yet another power interruption after 69 KV lines in various places were again cut due to the damage suffered by the said transformer.

The said acts of nature however did not hamper PELCO I engineers and linemen of the said electric cooperative to restore electric power supply immediately after the incident as on-duty and off-duty linemen joined hands in replacing cut power lines.

Meanwhile, the said PELCO I personnel headed by Engr. Amelito Sison of the Technical Services Department utilized the electric power firm’s reserved mobile power transformer, thus cutting short the time of the interruption and restoring power after a few hours.

In relation to the incident, Engr. Allas seeks the understanding of the member-consumers of the electric cooperative for the brown-out that affected several towns. “Kami po ay humihingi ng pang-unawa sa mga taong aming pinagsisilbihan. Ang mga nasabi pong insidente ay bunsod ng mga “acts of nature” na wala po tayong control doon, said Engr. Allas.

He added that PELCO I is continuously doing its best to provide its member-consumers with safe, reliable, efficient, affordable and quality distribution utility service. (PR)
