Mayor Gila leads destruction of defective weighing scales

DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – A total of 101 defective weighing scales were destroyed today by an enforcement group led by DTI Bataan, Bataan Consumer Affairs Council (BCAC), and the local government here led by Mayor Maria Angela S. Garcia.

Mayor Garcia personally drove a road roller and ran over the defective weighing scales. While other officials used mallets in crushing the broken scales.

The defective scales were confiscated during saturation drives in public markets by the municipal government in the period of two years.

Connie Sanico, head of the Consumer Protection Division of DTI Bataan said that defective weighing scales are confiscated to protect buyers, especially in public markets.

BCAC Chairman Rolando Dizon and his members joined Garcia, Vice Mayor Rey Matawaran and SB members, and DTI officials in the said the activity. Local media partners, market vendors and municipal employees also witnessed the event.

Cabahug reminded the vendors and buyers of the rights and responsibilities of consumers under Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
