Metrobank, Probe Foundation to hold media training on digital journalism

The Metrobank Foundation Inc. and the Probe Media Foundation, Inc., will be conducting the 8th Metrobank Foundation Media Training Series dubbed: “Digital Journalism: Does Journalism Still Matter in the Digital Age?” on Dec. 1 at the Capampangan Island Restaurant in the City of San Fernando.

Under the Metrobank Foundation Fellowship in Journalism Program, the media training series aims to provide a venue to further advance the practice of journalism in the country and discuss current issues, concerns, and challenges faced by the profession.

The resource persons for the training are the 2015 Metrobank Foundation Journalists of the Year (JOY) Awardees, who will be discussing the topic of Journalism in the Digital Age.

The first session is entitled “Changing Media Landscape: Mainstream vs. Online/Digital Media, Is it One or the Other, or Both?” to be discussed by Luz Rimban, Journalist and Trustee for the Vera Files and Executive Director or the Asian Center for Journalism. She will discuss the transition from traditional to online journalism, the roles of the journalist, challenges and benefits and the skills needed to make the shift.

Meanwhile, the second session is entitled “Embracing the New Media Environment: Planning Stories and Staying Relevant,” conducted by Marites D. Vitug, Editor-at-Large of Rappler. She will provide insights into the interests of the online audience, how solid stories, good sources and balanced reportage are still key. The session will also tackle how fact checking analysis, research and context will set the journalist apart.

The final session is entitled, “Making Stories that Matter and Safety in Reportage.” Nancy Carvajal, Senior reporter formerly with the Philippine Daily Inquirer will share how powerful stories can contribute to positive change, but also how to stay alive to tell the story another day.

Admission to the forum is free-of-charge including meals, materials and certificates of participation.
