No more ‘piggyback ride’ on motorcycles

The ‘Child Safety Motorcycle Ordinance’ will soon prohibit parents from allowing children below 13 years old to ride on motorcycles.

Angeles City Councilor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said the growing popularity of motorbikes as an alternative mode of transportation is becoming a hazard rather than a mode of convenience.

“Madalas nakakakita ako sa daan ng pamilya na nakasakay sa motor na naka back ride ang nanay na may dalang sanggol. Pag nadisgrasya, walang kalaban-laban ang sanggol. I think authorities must step into this,” said Lazatin.

Under the Ordinance, parents who allow their children as motorcycle riders, shall be liable under the Child and Youth Welfare Code on Presidential Decree No. 603 as amended.

“Parents foremost and at all times must give consideration to the safety and welfare of their children,” according to Lazatin.
