Olympic City to rise in Clark

THE Olympic City will rise at the Clark Freeport Zone in time for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) said the Olympic City will be established in the world-class Clark Green City in Capaz, Tarlac.

The Olympic City will serve as main hub of Philippine sports, according to the PSC.

PSC chair Butch Ramirez said that the construction of the complex, worth between P3 to P6 billion, will be a major component of PSC’s master plan for sports.

The PSC will coordinate with the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) for the construction of the Olympic City.

Ramirez said the PSC was already “drawing up the master plan and then submit it for approval to President Duterte.”

The funds for the construction of the Olympic City will come from the P1-billion savings of the previous PSC administration and the profits from the sale of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Philsports Arena in Pasig and other PSC-owned facilities in Baguio City, Muntinlupa and Quezon City.

The Olympic City will have training and competition venues, centers for sports science and the planned Philippine Sports Institute.
