BATAAN CAPITOL- Bataan Governor Abet Garcia on Thursday afternoon led the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Provincial Government of Bataan and Hanjo Group Manufacturing Corporation.
The simple ceremony was done at the conference room of Bulwagan ng Bayan where the Provincial Govenor’s Office is located.
The agreement will be for the construction of a thermal power plant in Bataan.
The cost of the project according to Chris Takayama, Chief Finance Officer of Korean firm HJGMI, is USD 1 billion.
The project will generate 10,000 to 20,000 jobs during its 3 to 5 years of construction.
During its normal operation it will generate 500 regular workers.The exact location will be finalized several months after this ceremony.
“This is a clean energy source and it will generate 600 megawatts of electricity for the Luzon grid,” Governor Garcia told Bataan newsmen in a news briefing with the firm’s key officials.
A thermal power plant is a power station in which heat energy is converted to electric power. In most of the places in the world the turbine is steam-driven. Water is heated, turns into steam and spins a steam turbine which drives an electrical generator.
