SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Subic has destroyed three 40-foot containers containing around 3,000 cases of assorted-brand cigarettes valued at ₱129.065 million as part of its continuing efforts to enforce customs laws and ensure the proper disposal of abandoned goods.
The condemnation and destruction were carried out from July 28 to August 3, 2026, at Legaxy 88 Recyclable Materials Collection Services in Santa Maria, Bulacan, the Port of Subic’s accredited disposal facility.
The condemned cigarettes, which had been declared abandoned, were rendered unusable through shredding and pyrolysis in accordance with established government procedures for the disposal of forfeited and abandoned goods.
The disposal operation was livestreamed through the BOC Port of Subic’s official YouTube channel, allowing the public to observe the process and underscoring the agency’s commitment to transparency and accountability in customs operations.
The three containers are part of a larger batch of 10 containers of abandoned cigarettes identified for condemnation, with a combined estimated value of approximately ₱413 million.
With the successful destruction of the initial three containers, disposal operations for the remaining seven containers are continuing. The Port said these activities are also being livestreamed through its official YouTube channel to provide the public with greater visibility into the disposal process.
The Port of Subic emphasized that the condemnation and disposal of abandoned goods are undertaken in coordination with the appropriate committees and accredited disposal facilities to ensure that all items are properly inventoried, accounted for, rendered unusable, and disposed of in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The operation forms part of the BOC’s broader mandate to protect government revenue, facilitate legitimate trade, secure the country’s borders, and prevent illicit goods from entering the domestic market.
Under the leadership of BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, with the guidance of District Collector Atty. Geniefelle P. Lagmay and Auction and Cargo Disposal Unit Chief Ronald P. Arzadon, the Port of Subic continues to strengthen its enforcement and disposal mechanisms while promoting integrity, transparency, and accountability.
The destruction of the abandoned cigarettes demonstrates the Port’s continuing efforts to ensure that goods subject to customs disposition are handled in accordance with government regulations and the public interest.
