Brgy. Cuayan gets agri equipment, seedlings and fertilizers

Angeles City Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. on July 22, 2021 handed over the donation of agricultural equipment, fertilizers, and seedlings from the Department of Agriculture – Region III to Barangay Cuayan Captain Rufino Candelaria.

This is part of the program for food accessibility and additional source of income in urban communities of the DA where they forged partnership with local government units (LGUs) in the implementation of the High Value Crops Development Program’s Community Gardening Project.

The High Value Crops Development Program’s Community Gardening Project aims to establish vegetable production areas in pockets of available lands and to diversify the source of livelihood of people in urban communities.

The Barangay Cuayan will serve as the pilot barangay for DA’s community garden project.

Barangay Cuayan has a 2,000 square meters of agricultural land that can be used for the community garden.

Organic fertilizers, plastic mulching film, wheel barrow, rake, pick mattock, shovel, knapsacks sprayer, trigger sprayer, grab hoe, plastic crates, multi cultivator, heavy duty foldable, and grass cutter were also given to Barangay Cuayan.

Seedlings such as eggplant, tomato, bittergourd, okra, pole sitao, sili panigang and hot pepper were also turned over.

Mayor Lazatin launched ‘Luntian sa Barangay Lingap Project,’ a sustainable project for food security amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Various seeds such as petsay, mustasa, okra, and ampalaya were distributed to more than 150,000 households in the city alongside food packs during the series of distribution.

This aims to encourage Angeleños to use their vacant lot and practice gardening at the comfort of their homes.

Food security, an adequate resource of food, and healthy living, prioritizing the health and welfare of every constituent.

These are what Mayor Lazatin wants to instill in every Angeleño, especially in this trying time.
