Campus scribes, communication professors to gather in a national confab in Region 3

Members of school publication and communication professors will gather in the 12th National Media conference of the School Press Advisers Movement (SPAM) Inc. on September 12-14, 2018 at Eurotel, Angeles City.

Anchored on the theme Embracing Integration in a Borderless Society and in Cyberspace through Campus Journalism, the confab aims to (1) hone the skills of campus journalists, communication and education students as well as student publication advisers and communication professors in journalism, broadcasting and documentary making; (2) recognize the excellent services of campus journalists and advisers; and (3) share best practices in campus paper management.

Highlights of the event include awarding of Medallion of Excellence to media practitioners, school paper advisers and student writers, Pambansang Pautakang Pampahayagan, TV Newscasting and I-Dokumento competition. There will also be individual and publication contests from the different school publications in the country.

Some of the confirmed speakers and judges include Makoi Popioco (CNN), Lian Buan (Rappler), Mariejo Mariss Ramos (Philippine Daily Inquirer-PDI), Tonette Orejas (PDI), Carlo Lorenzo Datu (Philippine Information Agency-PIA), Weslee Dizon (GMA7), Marie Joy Simpao (PIA), Teejay Pusung (GMA), Joey Andrew Guerrero (Guerrero,Valerio & Chan Law Office), Arnel Usman (Department of Education-DepEd), Ma. Editha Caparas (DepEd), Efren Abulencia (Commission on Higher Education) and other local journalists in Region 3. Other plenary speakers and judges are still being worked out by the organization.

The event is endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and was issued with an advisory from the Department of Education.
