City of San Fernando, Pampanga — With five projects approved by the National Scientific Review of Investigatory Projects, ten student proponents and innovators from Region III are qualified to participate in the National Science and Technology Fair
(NSTF) on February 18-22 at the Tagaytay International Convention Center.
In the Life Science Team Category, the official regional entry is the research entitled “Reducing Food-Induced Fat Accumulation using Trametes elegans Mycelial Mat Ethanolic Extract in Caenorhabditis elegans: A Potential Anti-Obesity Treatment” of Juan R. Liwag Memorial High School student proponents Pristenz Honey M. Corpuz, Lyanne Nicole M. Castillo, and Franzine Anne V. De Guzman.
The research entitled “Hibla: An Alternative Sound Absorption Material” of Angeles City Science High School students Neil David Cayanan, Shaira C. Gozun, and E’Van Relle M. Tongol is the entry in the Physical Science Team Category. In the Physical Science Individual Category, the official entry is the research entitled “Nanotechnology for Biomedical Application: Development of Nanosilica-Based Delivery System for Topical Anesthethics (Lidocaine)” of Mikael C. Sagun from the Muñoz National High School Main.
In the Robotics and Intelligent Machines Individual Category, the regional delegate is Jerk H. Ledama from the Assemblywoman Felicita G. Bernardino Memorial Trade School for his research “Intelligent Water Conservation Device for Households.” “I-PAROL: An Interactive, Integrated and Innovated Lantern” of Bianca Ma, Krista M. Angeles from the Information Communication Technology High School is the regional
entry in the Science Innovation Expo Category.
DepEd’s foremost program that aims to foster critical thinking, creativity, and innovation among students, the NSTF promotes Science and Technology consciousness among the youth by enabling them to produce and present Science researches and projects.
“Children in this digital age are very much into gadgets, robotics, and technology that our generation could only imagine, or see in films and read in books. Things have really changed, and it is challenging to catch up but these advancements are becoming indispensable not only in education but practically in all aspects of life. This is why the Department continuously advocates the cultivation of curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and innovation among our youth—to enable and nurture the country’s generation of globally competitive innovators,” DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones remarked.
The winning projects shall be selected based on outstanding and innovative research, as well as the potential impact on creating solutions to the problems of today and tomorrow. The participants shall vie for the following: top 3 projects per category, best 6 projects of NSTF, Gokongwei Brothers Foundation Young Scientist Award, and Gawad AGLITEKNO [Agham, Likha at Teknolohiya].
To encourage community awareness and support to the research and innovations of the participants, NSTF is open to the public (free of charge) on February 20, Wednesday.
