Duterte to announce Luzon lockdown fate today

Following the recommendations of health experts, President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to decide today whether to extend the lockdown in Luzon or implement a modified enhanced community quarantine beyond April 30.

Earlier, the World Health Organization recommended  the gradual lifting of lockdown to areas with few or no COVID-19 cases. Medical experts also recommended that regions with increasing number of infected should remain on lockdown until May 15.

Some 5,911 out of 6,710 cases were from Metro Manila, Calabarzon and Central Luzon region.

Senator and long-time presidential aide Bong Go said the decision remains in Duterte’s hands.
