Ex-politician shot dead in Floridablanca

FLORIDABLANCA, Pampanga – A 51-year old ex-politician was gunned down by unidentified suspects shortly after he drove out of his farm situated adjacent to the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) at Barangay San Jose in this town Friday noon.

Senior Supt. Nicolas Salvador, director of the Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPO), identified the victim as Cenen Pamintuan Tongol, a former government employee and staying at Purok 4 in Bgy San Jose in this town.

Tongol, who was on board owner-type jeep and was on his way home after attending to his farm, succumbed to lone gunshot wound in the back. He was dumped into the ground by the suspects who took the wheel as their getaway vehicle.

The incident, according to Salvador reportedly took place past 1 p.m. The body was discovered by a resident in the community identified as Orlando Estrella, 49, also of said place, past 2 p.m.

Estrella told investigators he was on his way home on board motorcycle when he noticed a man lying on the ground bloodied near his farm at Purok 7, Bgy San Jose.

When checked, Estrella said he recognized the victim and quickly sought h the assistance of Barangay Officials who in turn reported the incident to the police.

Tongol , ran in the past local election as vice mayoralty candidate but lost, it was gathered.

Salvador said he directed the FLoridablanca police to dig deeper the incident to determine the motive behind the killing.
