Healthway Cancer Care Hospital, Siemens Healthineers ink partnership for advancement in cancer care

Healthway Cancer Care Hospital (HCCH), an Ayala Healthcare Holdings, Inc. (AC Health) through Zodiac Health Ventures, Inc., sealed a long-term strategic Value Partnership with Siemens Healthineers.

As part of this partnership, Siemens Healthineers will provide its broad oncology focused innovative medical imaging, radiation therapy, and digital healthcare solutions together with clinical and technical expertise across the cancer care continuum, as well as operational efficiency services. The 100-bed facility will be the country’s first dedicated specialty cancer hospital and is set to open in mid 2023 at Ayala Land’s Arca South development in Taguig City, Philippines.

This new “Value Partnership” adds to the 8-year partnership agreement signed in 2020 between AC Health and the Multi-Disciplinary Oncology division of Varian, a Siemens Healthineers company. This partnership enabled Varian to provide remote and on-site clinical care support with medical physics, treatment planning, and decision support as part of the integrated cancer program ambitioned by AC Health, with services across the entire continuum of care from screening, prevention, and care delivery to survivorship.

“We recognize that cancer-specific technologies and knowledge play a vital role in detection, intervention, monitoring and can transform the quality of cancer care received by patients. Siemens Healthineers has always delivered patient-centered innovations to its clients, which in turn, result to better patient outcomes and experiences. Redefining the oncology landscape through better patient care is a shared ambition for AC Health and Siemens Healthineers, and we are proud to both broaden and deepen our partnership with them in order to realize this vision,” said AC Health President & CEO Paolo Borromeo.

The healthcare arm of the Ayala Group, AC Health is currently developing HCCC as a holistic cancer facility aimed at overcoming barriers in cancer care in the Philippines. According to the Global Cancer Observatory (GCO), cancer is still one of the leading causes of death in the country with 92,000 deaths recorded and over 150,000 new cases in 2020. By establishing a specialized center, it will offer a comprehensive range of cancer services from screening, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, to monitoring and follow-up.

“Cancer has been a relentless threat to the lives of many while high quality cancer care has not been widely accessible in the Philippines. Our partnership with AC Health and Zodiac Health Ventures reinforces our purpose to pioneer breakthroughs in healthcare, for everyone and everywhere, as we deliver comprehensive cancer care solutions to the Healthway Cancer Care center, the first cancer specialty hospital in the country.” said Juan Miguel P. Tan, President and Managing Director of Siemens Healthineers Philippines.

“Healthway Cancer Care Hospital (HCCH) aims to be the go-to facility service provider for all cancer patients.  And since each patient has a unique medical need, with our collaboration with Siemens Healthineers, we will be able to deliver the premium level of precision in diagnosis, personalized care and experience to each patient. Accurate and timely diagnosis needed for the treatment of their condition is critical to the patient’s treatment journey and this is of or our key focus in our patient care pathway,” said HCCC President and CEO Jaime E. Ysmael.

A Value Partnership centered on comprehensive cancer care

In 2019, the Philippines has enacted the Republic Act No. 11215, also known as the National Integrated Cancer Control Act (NICCA) to strengthen cancer control in the country, increase cancer survivorship, and reduce burden on families and cancer patients. The passing of NICCA paved the way for the private sector to establish cancer specialty facilities in support of the program.

Mr. Fabrice Leguet, Managing Director and Head of Siemens Healthineers, Southeast Asia, adds, “This landmark partnership with Healthway Cancer Care Hospital is our very first Value Partnership focused on comprehensive cancer care in the Philippines. With the combined strengths of Siemens Healthineers companies including Varian, we are very proud to enable AC Health to fulfill its ambition to make high quality cancer care more accessible to patients in the Philippines. We are doing this through accelerating the transfer of knowledge in oncology management across clinical, technical and managerial fields and by providing integrated innovative technologies across the continuum of cancer care. ”

As HCCH develops the first specialty cancer care facility, Siemens Healthineers will support them with the integration of the most suitable diagnostic and therapy systems focused on comprehensive cancer care, from medical imaging to image guided surgery and intervention as well as radiation therapy.

This partnership with AC Health is a long-term Value Partnership. Such partnership models with Siemens Healthineers enable healthcare providers to expand clinical capabilities, drive services growth, advance innovation and optimize business processes. It spans the entire Siemens Healthineers portfolio, to generate added value above and beyond the equipment itself. Value Partnerships are designed to fit the customer’s needs entirely. Through the combination with Varian, Siemens Healthineers adds even more capabilities to its already existing portfolio focused on Oncology Solutions. Siemens Healthineers has formed “Value Partnerships” with many healthcare providers around the world. The latest examples include Health Management International in Malaysia, Stroke International Services in Vietnam, Hamilton Health Sciences in Canada, the University of Missouri System in the USA, Dallah Health Company in Saudi Arabia and Braunschweig Municipal Hospital in Germany.
