King of the Road

Mitsubishi today is a well-known automotive industry in the Philippines. Its Second Generation Montero Sport was a success in the Philippine Market because of its practicality, looks and reliability.

The Next Generation Montero Sport had a total make over. Everywhere you look it has no resemblance to the Previous Generation. It has a more aggressive look with its new bumper, with a honeycomb-like design; the grill, which connects to the new headlights and has daytime running lights so you feel like you’re in a premium SUV; new tail lights which slope down across the body of the car. The lines and curves of the car, which feel aerodynamic, makes the car have a distinct look above its main rivals.

Practicality
The Montero Sport has seven seats including the driver’s seat, while the second row of seats has tons of knee room that you can even stretch your legs out. For headroom, you have massive amounts of it, adults would find it absolutely cavernous and would easily fit three people comfortably. For the last row of seats, you do get some headroom and a little bit of knee room but an adult wouldn’t be comfortable sitting there for a long journey. But kids would fit fine.

It’s perfect for big families. You have a lot of cubby spaces to store your mobiles devices, lots of cup holders for your beverages. And the glove box can even fit a pair of shoes.

The Cargo Capacity of the Montero Sport is an impressive 673 liters. Fold down the second row of seats and you get a gargantuan space of 1624 liters. So fitting big items like bikes, furniture and other heavy items is a breeze.

What’s inside

The interior of the Montero Sport doesn’t disappoint. You get all leather and soft touch materials in the higher range models. Also there is an entertainment system, a reverse camera, SAT Nav and Bluetooth connectivity for your mobile phone.

Safety features include traction control, forward collision mitigation, blind spot warning and seven SRS airbags with a 5-Star crash ratings from ANCAP.

On the road

The suspension of the Montero is soft. It absorbs bumps and the small imperfections of the road easily. You can barely feel a thing. The steering is light and direct so parking this SUV wouldn’t be a nuisance.

The Montero Sport only comes with two variants for the engine. A 2.4 liter High Power Turbo diesel with VGT or Variable Geometric Turbo which produces 179 HP, and a 2.5 liter turbo diesel which produces 134 HP with a fuel consumption of 8 Liters per 100 kilometers. It’s not a pushover on the road.

Overall
The New Generation Montero Sport is a great SUV for big families for those long journeys or trips to the mall. It’s new futuristic stylish look with a power turbo-charged engine and a reliable badge gives its rivals in this class a run for their money. –Choby Pelayo
