After the recommendation of National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, President Rodrigo Duterte has signed Proclamation 789 declaring Monday, August 12 a regular holiday.
This allows Filipino Muslims to commemorate Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, one of the two greatest feasts of Islam.
The Islam Festival commemorates Ibrahim’s willingness to offer his son to Allah. Also called the Greater Eid, the celebration marks the end of pilgrimage to Mecca.
The proclamation paved way for a long weekend. Upcoming Philippine holidays to be observed are Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21 (Wednesday) and National Heroes Day on August 26 (Monday).
