Pampanga Capitol appeals for ‘pay now, work later’ to private biz

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — The provincial government appealed to private companies in Pampanga to consider a “pay now, work later” mechanism as many workers are losing income due to the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“There are workers who are experiencing financial distress, especially now that the province was placed under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ),” Governor Dennis Pineda said in a recorded video message posted online.

“Much as they want to work, they cannot go out (due to ECQ). I hope you can give them their salary good for 15 days or a month. Just deduct it after this calamity,” he added.

The governor also asked the support of Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and all the businessperson for his call to give workers consideration during this time of crisis.

ECQ, meant to curb the rising number of cases of COVID-19, will be implemented in the entire Luzon from March 17 to April 13.
