MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday recorded one more death among its personnel due to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), raising the death toll to 115.

In a media statement, PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the latest fatality is a 54-year-old police officer, assigned in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

On September 17, the patient underwent an RT-PCR test which yielded a positive result for Covid-19.

He was then admitted to the Kiangan quarantine facility. On September 18, he was transferred to a nearby hospital due to difficulty in breathing, and on September 20, he was intubated and sent to the Intensive Care Unit.

On September 23, a family member of the personnel reported that he succumbed due to cardiac arrhythmia and pneumonia. According to his medical records, the deceased was diabetic and already received his first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

“All the assistance and needs will be given to the bereaved family and I would like to extend the PNP’s sincerest condolences,” Eleazar said.

Meanwhile, a total of 152,724 or 68.58 percent of PNP personnel nationwide have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 while more than 61,375 or 27.56 percent are waiting for the second dose of the vaccine.
