Sen. Villar cites role of women empowerment in nation building

CITY OF MALOLOS – “I believe that women have a lot to contribute to the development given the proper opportunities, and that when we empower women, we empower families and generations of people.”

This is what Senator Cynthia “Misis Hanep Buhay” Villar said during the 25th Gawad Medalyang Ginto 2019 as part of the Women’s Month Celebration held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city on Monday.

Villar also pointed out the evolution of women empowerment in the country. “Fifty percent of our country’s population consists of women, and more than 50% of our OFWs are also women. More and more Filipino women are taking on influential and leadership roles, at bilang mga empowered women, there are no limitations to what we can do or achieve,” Villar said.

The senator also noted the livelihood projects of Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance or Villar SIPAG, rescuing repatriated OFWs under the Sagip-OFW program, skills training and kabuhayan package. She said there is no better way to use her influence than to empower women and their families.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado recognizing the importance of women commended not only the winners of Medalyang Ginto but all the Bulakenyas.With pride, the governor together with Sen. Villar and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando awarded the outstanding women and group of women.

Evelyn Lipana from San Ildefonso was recognized as the Natatanging Babae; Rowena Gloriani Clemente from Calumpit was hailed as the Matagumpay na Ginang ng OFW; Ma. Imelda Bundoc from Pulilan, Matagumpay na Babaeng Makakalikasan; Milagros Imson from the City of Meycauayan, Matagumpay na Babaeng Mangangalakal; Engr. Relynne Miranda from Baliwag, Huwarang Kabataang Babae sa Pamumuno; Soroptimist International of Meycauayan headed by Anne Marie Mizuse, Natatanging Samahang Pangkababaihan; and Konsehong Pambayan para sa Kababaihan ng Calumpit headed by Rosalina Yanga, Matagumpay na KPK.

Meanwhile, Vice Gov. Fernando said that the world needs women in serving as inspiration and that he is hoping that gender discrimination will truly be eradicated for them to fully reach their potentials.
