Soto meets with Federation of Solo Parents

Senate Majority Leader Tito Sotto met with members of the Federation of Solo Parents headed by Carina Javier (2nd from right) in the Senate Tuesday afternoon. The group met with Sotto to ask him to push for amendments to the Solo Parents Welfare Act of 2000 (Republic Act 8972), which would provide additional benefits for solo parents in the country. There is a pending bill in Congress seeking to add more teeth to RA 8972, the law that makes it illegal for employers to discriminate against any solo-parent employees by increasing the penalties against employers found violating the rights of solo parents.
