Tabloid reporter, companion killed in Pampanga shooting

An unidentified gunman shot dead a reporter for a Manila tabloid and his companion on Sunday evening in Arayat town.

The police identified the slain reporter as Jupiter Gonzales of Remate and his companion, Christopher Tiongson.

Gonzales and Tiongson reportedly had a heated altercation with the gunman who then shot them dead in Barangay Cacutud, Arayat.

A closed circuit television camera captured how the suspect shot Gonzales and Tiongson.

Police said Tiongson died instantly while Gonzales was rushed by responding policemen to the Arayat District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The killer remains at large.

If the attack was work-related, Gonzales would be the 14th journalist killed under the Duterte administration and the 187th since 1986, according to the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP).
