Tacloban drew inspiration from Porac – Imee Marcos

PORAC Pampanga – “Tacloban City drew inspiration from Porac.”

Thus said Senatorial Bet and Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos during a recent campaign sortie in Barangay Manibaug Paralaya here. She was referring to the 2013 Super Typhoon Yolanda which devastated Tacloban City in Leyte.

Marcos said that “Tacloban rose from the ashes of destruction just like Porac.” The mother Marcos  —  Imelda Romualdez Marcos — is from  Tacloban City.

It could be recalled that Porac, one of the biggest towns in Pampanga, was also hit by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991.

“Everyone thought that it was all over for Porac when Mt. Pinatubo and its lahar hit it. But the people managed to survive and did well. I admire their resiliency,” said Marcos, who was accompanied by party list candidate Yedda Marie Romualdez, House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Board Member Frtizie David-Dizon, Mayor Carling Dela Cruz and Vice Dexter David during the campaign trail.

“Our people in Tacloban and the rest of Leyte is also rising from the effects of the Yolanda,” she added.
