Tarlac bike lanes project underway

TARLAC CITY — Provincial Government of Tarlac has started the development of bike lanes to promote the safety and mobility of enthusiasts and commuters.

In an interview, Provincial Tourism Head Arsenio Lugay II said the painting of lines along the highway will begin next month.

“About two weeks ago, Senator Pia Cayetano joined the ocular ride to assess our major thoroughfares, and to sort out aspects needing improvement,” he stated.

Lugay furthered that bicycles have become a means of transportation for people especially during the current pandemic wherein public vehicles are limited.

On another note, Lugay cited the strong support of the stakeholders to the bike lanes program.

“SM Tarlac established a lounge for bikers that has a repair station with tool kits, and bike parking manned by on-duty security guards. With this lounge, our bikers can park with ease and relax,” he said.

Aside from the bike lanes along the highway, Lugay mentioned the initiative to establish bike trails in the mountains for adventure biking to boost the tourist attractions in Tarlac.

“Since public gatherings remain prohibited, our focus now is more on outdoor tourism. We have already opened the Monasterio de Tarlac and eco-parks which people can visit and enjoy provided that they follow the minimum public health standards,” he said.

Other tourism activities in Tarlac include hiking, mountain climbing, and bird watching at Canarem Lake in Victoria.
